THE PEARL OF SCOTLAND

A new orchestral work by composer Helen MacKinnon, premiered in 2024. Recorded in Greyfriars Kirk, Edinburgh with Edinburgh University Music Society Symphony Orchestra by Azimuth Media Productions. Conducted by William Conway

The Pearl of Scotland was inspired by the extraordinary character of Saint Margaret, Queen of Scotland, with a reflection on Margaret’s early years. The musical dedication reflects the 'feminine genius' of Margaret’s character, celebrating her Queenship and now Sainthood.

THE RINNS OF ISLAY

New orchestral work by composer Helen MacKinnon. Recorded in Glasgow Royal Concert Hall with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra with PARMA Recordings. David Watkin, Conductor. Released 2022, Navona Records.

A musical journey around the coastal shores of the Inner Hebridean island of Islay, home to my grandparents and generations before. Known for its rich terrain, complex climate, and peaty whisky, Islay’s stunning natural environment served as the creative inspiration for the work.
